GH: Wasn't Jax way out of line saying that to Brenda?

The woman is stressed to the breaking point, then Jax tells her that Sonny and Carly will probably sleep together on their little trip?? Why on earth would he say that to her? What were the writer's thinking? Doesn't she have enough to worry about?
